Magento lectures

Currently, I am offering three lectures:

L1: Magento for users

The aim of this lecture is provide a first overview of the functionality of Magento. Here I will outline the basic characteristics of the Magento software and explain the main elements from the perspective of the user and the administrator, including:

• Adding products and categories
• Processing sales and order information
• Reporting and statistics

L2: Magento for designers

In this lecture we delve into the system a little further. It is aimed primarily at designers who learn how the individual components of Magento themes can be used to alter the overall design of a Magento based shop. Amongst others, the main topics are:

• Structural blocks and content blocks
• Themes, templates and layouts
• Skins (images, CSS, JS)

L3: Magento for developers

Without much ado this lecture deals with the core of the Magento system, namely the underlying PHP code as well as the database. The aim of this lecture is to provide developers with the tools and strategies they need in order to add custom functionalities. The following topics will be addressed:

• Extensions and overriding of classes
• Using the event-observer method
• Communication with the Magento API

Magento workshops

Workshops are suited best when the aim is to find out how a particular ecommerce project can best be planned and handled. With regard to Magento, this means that I can assist you with assessing whether a given project can be implemented on the basis of Magento and which approach is appropriate.
